The outdated flight check-in process has plagued flyers for years now – so Delta has gotten rid of it!
Now, Delta passengers' boarding passes will automatically be sent out 24 hours prior to the flight – as long as they use Delta's mobile app!
This change, first noted on the iOS version of the Fly Delta app, is sure to please those who hate having to go through the tiresome process of online check-in. Android, however, doesn't seem to have the option yet.
This new feature makes Delta's app quite unique, considering that no other US airline offers it – hopefully, it will inspire other airlines to do the same!
While German airline Lufthansa does do automatic check-in, and JetBlue tried a pilot program with select customers of its Even More Space pricing tier for a while in 2014, this is the first official automatic check-in service for a US airline that appears to be here to stay!
We are not exactly sure about how Delta plans on dealing with the other aspects of the process as it was handled on the web – including bag check and seat changes. In addition, if you don't have the Fly Delta app, you may not be emailed your boarding pass and you might have to follow the standard check-in process online.
However, Delta has been contacted for more clarification on this information.
