This week, Facebook announced a new Apple Music integration for Messenger that allows you to stream full songs and emoji-inspired suggestions – a first for the social network's messaging platform.
Before this partnership, you were able to build collaborative Spotify playlists inside Messengers group chats and Facebook's digital AI assistant M would recommend songs via Spotify based on the content of your conversations. But, until now, you couldn't stream full songs.
Now, you can – but only so long as you're an Apple Music subscriber. If you aren't a subscriber, you can still stream and share 30-second snippets.
You can access Apple Music by clicking the "+" sign from a one-on-one or group chat in Messenger on mobile and navigating over to the Apple Music extensions. In addition, you can interact with an Apple Music bot on both mobile and desktop by searching for it as a new contact in your friends list.
According to Facebook, sending an emoji to the bot will prompt it to suggest a new playlist based on the nature of the emoji – how awesome! So, you could send a fire emoji and get an "It's lit!" playlist in return!
