Whatsapp is by far the most widely used messaging app available on all telephony platforms, and WhatsApp web works in a similar fashion on desktops. It has been available to use on most devices except iPads, which has now changed as of late.
WABetaInfo released their suspicion about the new iPad Whatsapp in September and the references alluded to it in the recent update confirmed their suspicions.
The app could be developed as a wrapper that just makes WhatsApp web function more similarly to the actual app or it could be launched as a whole new app. It could also deliver notifications to iPad users, the same way iPhone users receive notifications, and change the appearance of the browser version of the app. iPad users are hoping for a whole new app though, as WhatsApp web is available on iPad but doesn't have great user experience reviews and users aren't able to receive notifications unless their web browser is open.
Whilst Whatsapp has released new features recently that enable the user to delete messages, they have made no comment on Whatsapp for iPad. The world waits in anticipation further information from Whatsapp.
