Android Oreo 8.1 is now out on the Essential Phone, the company announced on Twitter. The Essential Phone users just have to check their phones and download the update. Android Oreo 8.1 had previously been out in beta for Essential beta testers. Essential has said that the company will skip the release of Android 8.0 due to "several stability issues".
The newer version of Oreo includes a faster startup and sign in, smart text selection, instant apps, and the ability to play a windowed video while browsing other tabs. It also has Google Play Protect, which scans apps for malware before and after installation.
The IDC noted last month that Essential had shipped less than 90,000 phones in the first six months after launch. Still, if you have got an Essential phone and want the latest OS now (it's been available for Nexus and Pixel devices since December), just check your phone for the update.
