Instagram is a mobile, desktop and internet-based photo-sharing application that allows people to share pictures and videos publicly or privately. Top 10 features
1 Post more than one photo at once
In February 2017 Instagram introduced the ability to post more than one photo at a time. By posting 10 photos at once to your profile, your followers get to swipe through these images that can be seen on their timeline. The catch is you can only post a single caption for the entire album and the images are shared as squares.
2 Remove photos you’re tagged in
If one of your friends tag you in a photo, it will show up in the photos of you section on your profile page. If you want to remove a tag, you can select Hide from my profile or remove me from photo (which is under the photo options)
3 Send direct messages
At the top-right of your Instagram homepage, there is an icon that looks like a paper plane. Tapping on this icon allows you to send private messages to your Instagram followers.
4 Adding Hashtags to Photos
You can add hashtags (#) to your posts. This will link photos with other content on Instagram featuring the same subject or overall topic. It is a great way to get new followers and share your photos with more people on Instagram. ( If your profile is not a private account.)
5 Start sharing GIFs
GifShare is an application that allows you to share GIFs to your favourite social network. You can now search or upload GIFs from your camera roll to Instagram. Even your very own GIFs; the app accepts GIF, MP4, MOV, MPG and MV4 file formats.
6 Manage multiple accounts
To be limited to a single Instagram account can get frustrating, thank goodness it has changed. You can now link multiple accounts by simply going to your profile settings page and tap the gear icon, select Add account and create a unique username and password. This is especially useful if you are running a business on the sideline.
7 Get notifications when your favourite influencer’s post to Instagram
Don’t let algorithms be the reason you miss out on your favourite influencer’s page, you can choose to get notifications every time the post something new. To turn on this notification, visit their profile and click the three dots in the upright corner and choose Turn on Post Notifications.
8 Create a collection of saved posts
Instagram now allows you to save or bookmark certain posts in collections that you create. Almost like Pinterest’s concept. Start by going to your profile, tap the bookmark icon on the top-right menu above your photos. Select collection tab and create a collection.
9 Insert line breaks into your bio and caption
On your keyboard, you have to press the “123” key in the bottom left-hand of the keyboard, and the “return” key will appear on the bottom right. This will allow you to add break lines if you want to separate your caption and hashtags.
10 Hide ads you do not find relevant
Every company needs to find a way to promote their brand. Luckily you get to remove irrelevant ads that pop-up on your timeline. To hide this feature, tap the three dots to the right of a post labelled “sponsored” and choose “Hide Ad”.
